Extractions

Tooth extractions are fairly common procedures. Teeth may cause problems as they are trying to erupt through the gums. An impacted tooth is defined as a tooth that is covered by gum tissue and/or bone tissue and may not visible in the mouth on clinical examination. Impacted teeth when present are typically seen on a xray.

Impacted teeth and wisdom teeth that can potentially cause problems, such as infection, pain, and swelling are usually recommended for removal. Extractions can range from a single tooth to removing multiple teeth at once. Based on the preference of the doctor and/or the patient, a local anesthetic could be used to numb the areas where the teeth will be extracted. Other patients will prefer to have intravenous sedation which will allow them to be asleep during the procedure.

If intravenous sedation is required, you must be driven home by a friend or family member. You may require several days off from work.
